Heat

A classic Finnish sauna with wood and stones.

Cold

Just for a moment: the tub on deck, the shower, or straight into the Vltava.

Rest

Then wrap up and rest on a lounger in the relaxation room.

How to sauna

The Finnish way: a long time in the heat, just a moment in cold water, then a long rest on a lounger. And again.

  1. Shower and dry off

    Swimsuits stay in the changing room. Take a sheet into the sauna.

  2. Heat, 8 to 12 minutes

    The higher you sit, the hotter it gets. If you're lying down, sit up for the last two minutes.

  3. Cold, just for a moment

    Get some fresh air first, then briefly into cold water: the tub, the shower or the Vltava. A few seconds is enough, it's not an endurance contest. Into the river only by the ladder, and never alone.

  4. Rest on a lounger, 10 to 15 minutes

    Wrap yourself in a sheet, lie down in the relaxation room and drink some water. Rest matters as much as the heat.

  5. Two or three rounds in total

    Allow about 90 minutes.

Löyly
Steam from water poured on the stones. Ask the others before you pour.
Kiuas
The sauna stove. Don't put anything on it.
Saunarauha
Sauna peace. Speak quietly, phones stay in the changing room.

Metro B to Karlovo náměstí, exit Palackého náměstí. A few steps to the water, then walk south along the riverbank to the boat. By tram to Výtoň: the boat is moored right across from the stop, just before the Railway Bridge.
